The Apotheosis of DuMont
Or, in plainer English, as DuMont as I've ever seen DuMont get. This one has it all: washed-out kinescope video quality, random variety acts, and even a built-in commercial for a DuMont television set.
There's no part of this that isn't head-scratching in some way. The musical acts are fascinatingly zany, and the whole premise is decidedly offbeat, but for my money the highlight is the commercial, in which the pointdexter character stumbles through his lines (live!), no doubt shamed that much more by the juggler who came on later and made a much harder thing look much easier. Highly recommended watching.

Season 1, episode 10.
Original air date: 1949.
Kenny Detmar`s attempts to educate his students on the finer points of poetry, philosophy and opera aren`t very successful, perhaps because the classmates are more interested in entertaining the audience by singing, dancing, juggling and playing the clarinet.
Cast: Kenny Delmar (Himself- Teacher/ Sketch Actor). Arnold Stang (Himself- Student/ Sketch Actor), Tommy Dix (Himself- Student/ Singer), Betty Ann Nyman (Herself- Student/ Dancer), Kenny Bowers (Himself- Student/ Singer/ Clarinetist). Aileen Stanley Jr. (Herself- Student/ Singer), Wally Cox (Himself- Student/ Sketch Actor/ Ad Pitchman), Vilma Shetty (Herself- Student/ Dancer) and Rudy Cardenas (Himself- Student/ Juggler.

If This is Cheese...
If this is cheese, I say let us have more cheese. The people producing TV today could not achieve a program like this. Today, they have all the money, the ability to do retakes when actors goof lines and still they produce garbage. Live television consisted of having the producer hand you maybe a $5.00 bill and with that you had to come up with something. Your broadcast was live. If an actor goofed a Given the circumstances of television in those days, I respect what they managed to come up with. It takes more talent to make something with little than to have alot and come up with nothing.

Cheese
But I like cheese. Most critics at the time panned this series quite harshly, but I like it.
After all, it's fun. As usual, the magic of DuMont-TV makes it enjoyable.
Recommended to all cheese fans.

Golly,... imagine if they did have writers!
I laughed a little when Wally Cox forgot his lines in the middle of the commercial, but everyone pressed on anyway.

zigoto uploaded this and I'm glad he/she did. It's a wonderful example of DuMont Network programming, low budget but full of talent. I really enjoyed the music and comedy sketches.
